Hari Hol has been declared a public holiday in Pahang since 1974 to commemorate the passing of the fourth Sultan of Pahang, the late Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Riayatuddin Al-Muadzam Shah, who was the father of Sultan Ahmad Shah, on May 7, 1974. He passed away at Peninjau Palace, Pekan, at the age of 70 after ruling the state of Pahang for 42 years.
In 2024, Pahang will observe Hari Hol on 22nd and 23rd May as a state public holiday.
According to Kamus Dewan, "Hol" is defined as a memorial feast held annually. Hari Hol is a day to commemorate the passing of members of the royal family in the state. Previously, the date is fixed and is celebrated on the 7th of May annually but the date has been changed since 2020.
